Evelyn’s favorite color these days is purple. She’s been requesting all things purple: purple dress, purple purse, purple crayons and of course, purple food. This morning, as I pulled the spinach out to make our regular green juice, she requested a purple smoothie. With blackberries and blueberries on hand, I was good to go. I was even able to keep in the spinach.
This purple smoothie is super healthy and super thick. Because it’s so thick, I didn’t think they’d actually finish it after their already big breakfast…but they did! And they wanted more. The only sugar in this smoothie is the natural sugars from the fruit. I tossed in some flax seed meal but that’s optional. You could just as easily toss in hemp hearts. I had some Tahini on hand, so I used that to add protein to the drink, but you could use any kind of nut butter and I’m sure it would taste great.
